Its been up in the air the last few days since Microsoft announced they would be selling their Xbox One headset separately, but Microsoft has now definitively said that old headsets will not work on the Xbox One in a statement to Game Informer.
Head past the jump for Microsoft’s statement.
The official reason Microsoft has given is:
“The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the consoles, this also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input. We plan to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio”
So to sum up, the controllers got a different port on it, you cannot use your expensive Turtle-Beach’s until Microsoft release an adapter or something, and they are going to charge you for a headset in the meantime.
