I remember the feeling of relief when the trailer for Warhammer 40K: Dark Millenium was finally revealed at E3 2010. After so many spurious rumours, a trailer confirmed it was happening, we were getting a 40K MMO. It’s hard to believe it’s been three years since then, it had completely fallen of my radar despite being the coolest fucking universe around and that’s no exaggeration.
Reported originally by IGN, the game has been re-titled Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade. As expected it will be an over the shoulder third person shooter with ‘brutal melee combat’. Players will be able to choose from Space Marines, Eldar, Orks and Chaos Marines, as you level your character from ‘bad ass’ to ‘awesome fucking mega bad ass’ and way beyond, the possibilities of equipping new pieces of awesome armour makes me excited thinking about it. If the game stays true to the lore then expect all out four way PvP, although this sounds too good to be true and I’m expecting the Chaos to somehow get friendly with the Orks, and the elder to pair with the Space Marines to make two large factions.
After THQ’s destruction the rights have fallen to Naughty Bear developer to Behaviour, being their first MMO and with a track record including mainly shovelware cash in trash we can only hope for the best. The 40K license has spawned an impressive array of top quality games including Space Marine and of course the fantastic Dawn of War series, pleasing the fans won’t be easy.
Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade is due to be released Q4 2015 on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. You can view the original 2010 e3 trailer below.
